(Lee, 1938) R.x damascena bifera x R.spinosissima 4' |
I've been trying to grow this rose ever since I began this garden. Beguiled by a magazine article, I ordered two from Corn Hill Nursery in New Brunswick, Canada in 1994. Despite exemplary care, they made such a pathetic show that we dubbed them "Stanwell Eventual", and after three years with great regret I shovel-pruned them. Got one from the Roseraie at Bayfields last year, and it shows much promise. I was attracted to this rose by its heritage and its foliage, mostly the latter.
