Mary Rose is probably the most commonly-grown English rose in the States. She's nearly always in bloom from June through December. Not the most shapely shrub, or the most healthy, or even particularly fragrant, yet the flowers are very nice for cutting, and the shrub blooms so dependably that it can keep a border going all by itself. Usually shows a bit of black spot by September or October, but keeps right on blooming. Responds very well, as do all of the English roses, to a fairly savage annual pruning. There's a pale pink sport called 'Redoute', and a white sport called 'Winchester Cathedral'. Mary Rose was named on behalf of the Mary Rose Trust to mark the recovery of the Henry VIII's famous flagship.
