Rugosa Hybrid
('Schneezwerg' seedling)
10'

John Davis is a wonderfully vigorous and hardy rose, with surprisingly attractive foliage for a modern rose. Its first flush of the summer produces an absolute cloud of these charming ruffly pink blossoms. I was warned - after I'd already ordered two - that this will grow to be a very large shrub. I've contained one in a barrel, and put the other in the ground and so far they're growing at about the same pace - which is to say enormous. The one in the ground has a lovely habit of sending out long graceful arching canes. This rose is very hardy - to zone 3 - so is ideal for a windbreak or exposed site in warmer zones. No scent.

John Davis was a 16th century Canadian explorer whose "Traverse Book" from his final voyage has since become the model for ships' log-books. Lots more information about the Canadian Explorer Series roses at the Canadian Rose Society web site.
